We’ve been so lucky recently with extra days off and long sunny evenings. When the weather is good, there are few places I would rather be than in Wales.

We’ve kind of got it all. From some of the world’s most beautiful beaches to show-stopping mountain ranges, Wales has something for everyone and I love spending my time off exploring new places.

This week, I’ve rounded up my top 5 favourite places to stay in and around Wales. With the summer holidays fast approaching, hopefully my list will inspire you to explore somewhere new, not so far from home.

1. Under the Thatch

With more + more beautiful cottages adding to their website, Under the Thatch is one of my go to sites to suss out my next holiday.

I’ve been lucky enough to stay in their gorgeous TŶ BARDDU cottage in the Carmarthenshire hills. It’s beautiful with a stripped back + minimal interior. And the best thing… it has a HOT TUB! TŶ UNNOS (with no WIFI!! Sounds like bliss, right!) + CAPEL TŶ DDEWI are on my hit list!

2. fforest

Where to start with fforest, if you want a complete get away, retreat, switch off + recharge, then this is the place.

With so many different dwellings, you can camp under the stars in the Domes or cosy up in the Granary Loft, you’ll totally find your perfect nights sleep. Set over four locations in + around Cardigan, each time I go, I want to stay longer. I used to holiday just along the coast, when I was small. All the memories come flooding back Canoeing down the Teifi + sandy sandwiches on Poppit Sands. Go visit the fforest family…. I promise you’ll never want to leave!

3. The Chickenshed

This beautiful former chicken shed, set in the luscious Wye Valley is a bit of something!

Architecturally, it’s simple, Scandi + modest, three things I absolutely love. The detailing in this interior is so good + so local, from the architects to the furniture + throws. I am yet to stay here, but one day I will! Some people have shopping lists of clothes… I have lists of places/ interiors I want to stay in… what a geek!

4. Wright’s Food Emporium

Food lovers - this is your place to stay! If you don’t know about Wright’s… why not?!! I should explain my link, this seriously doesn’t sway my view… I promise! I used to work for Maryann + Simon back when they ran YPolyn with Sue + Mark back in 2005! That is when I tasted the BEST food ever.

Tucked down the back road from Llandeilo to Carmarthen, you’ll find Wright’s Food Emporium, a cafe, deli + place to stay. It’s the perfect stop off if you are heading West or fancy a weekend roaming the Towy Valley. You’ll find two cottages at Wright’s, in their signature laid back/ informal style, which is why I love it so much. Plus good food by good people.

5. Hide

Just a stones throw away from Cardiff is cosy St Donats… + Hide. Sometimes the best things are right under our noses, right? Who doesn’t love getting away + without having to drive 6 hours?! Ummm me please!!

Hide is totally hidden away with three romantic snug Cabans, a Bugail (Shepherds) Hut and ‘Walden’ Lodge tucked between trees, gorgeous Welsh countryside + sea views.

It was so hard to cut this list down to just five, especially with new and exciting places popping up all the time. Where’s your favourite place to visit in Wales? Let me know in the comments or over on Instagram so I can add it to my ever-growing bucket list.

Make sure you comment bellow, as I’d love to hear your Top 5.

PS.  This is not sponsored or paid or a #AD!!! I want this to be a way of helping you find other hidden independents, beautiful places to stay + go, and generally just nice stuff for you!
