It's never... 'Just a Card'

"If everyone who'd complimented our beautiful gallery had bought 'just a card' we'd still be open"

The 'Just a Card' campaign first started when artist and designer, Sarah Hamilton, saw the above quote. The quote came from a shopkeeper who had had to sadly close their gallery - and it struck a chord with independent designers, makers and business owners everywhere.

Small businesses are often born from love and passion. And, although this is what keeps their owners driven to succeed every day, it's never going to pay the bills. When people are so used to shopping at major chain shops, the costs of running an indie business can be quite easily overlooked. But every penny is personal and that makes every sale, no matter what size, so much more appreciated when you shop small.

The 'Just a Card' campaign is one that is very close to my heart. The campaign encourages people to support independent shops, galleries, artists & makers. Independent businesses keep our high streets and cities vibrant and diverse. It's important that we don't let them close unnecessarily. So, next time you are looking to wish someone happy birthday, good luck or just want them to know you're thinking of them, pop into your local indie shop or gallery and buy 'just a card'. Because it really is never, 'Just a Card'...
