Tap, Tap. Angharad, Web Designer.

Angharad is a really good friend and, quite handily, an incredible website designer. She spends her time working on amazing client projects and works with the most creative and interesting small businesses. Angharad has always understood my style and been able to reflect my brand perfectly when helping me develop my online shop. I asked her to answer a few questions for me for this week’s blog, and she kindly agreed…

How did you get into your business?

I left my 9-5 job in 2014 after 10 years producing websites for BBC Learning. Remember Bitesize? I produced all sorts of GCSE revision content like videos, games, notes, infographics etc. I really needed a change and my initial plan was to study textiles at university whilst running my handmade knitwear business on the side.

After a couple of years of designing & making, I naturally fell back into web design. It felt like an organic progression and lots of people I met whilst running my knitwear business turned into lovely web design clients. I feel so lucky to be able to work with so many talented individuals and small business owners.

What is a typical workday for you?

The best thing about running a small business is that every day is different and I can be really flexible with my work hours. I split my time between working from home and my studio at the Printhaus. My week looks something like:

Mondays are for admin (accounts, emails, client quotes, website updates etc)

Tuesdays - Thursdays are 100% dedicated to client work

Fridays are for learning and getting creative away from the computer. I love online courses and I’ve recently been working on improving my photography, colour psychology, illustration for the iPad etc. I also try and make an effort to visit galleries and museums for inspiration.

What's the top thing that you can't live without? Book/music/podcast/animal?

For work - it has to be my laptop which I’m pretty stuck to most of the time, but equally as important is my dog Gruff who gets me out & about for regular walks and fresh air!

Tell me about your favourite business, cafe, bar or shop + why you like them?

It’s lunchtime as I write this so I’m thinking about food and how good a brunch at Early Bird would be…

Can you pick 3 products you love from HBK website?

It's so hard to pick just three! But here are a few pieces that have caught my eye recently:

1. Boris Bear

by Just Dutch

Oh look at Boris Bear in his black overalls! How fine is he? He would make a great friend for young and old Miffy lovers!

2. Concrete Tealight Holder

by Moxon

Produced from solid concrete, giving each item a varied and unique finish. Individually hand-cast and finished by master craftsmen. Modular so you can build up your tea lights and create your own candle display.

3. Wire Face Earrings

by A Weathered Penny.

With influence of love, from line drawings of the face and body from Matisse. The Wire Faces Hoop Earrings are hand moulded in gold + silver plated alloy wire, these fun and unique earrings depict a side profile of a female face.
